KTLA reports,
Waymo has suspended service in downtown Los Angeles after multiple autonomous vehicles were set ablaze on Sunday amid protests against the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown.
A company spokesperson confirmed to KTLA that Waymo won’t be serving DTLA but will still operate in other areas of Los Angeles.
Waymos are those self-driving taxis that operate in selected urban areas. I spotted one in Scottsdale, Arizona, earlier this year.
It’s not clear that the Waymos were torched because they represented an available target, or whether they represent automation of jobs frequently occupied by illegal immigrants.
