WH Fires Back After Claims Dem Rep Told Mexican Summit She’s ‘Proud Guatemalan Before I’m an American’ – RedState

Democrat Rep. Delia Ramirez (IL) sparked controversy after reportedly declaring at the second annual Panamerican Congress held in Mexico that she is a proud Guatemalan before she is an American.

Ramirez, whose husband is a DACA recipient and defines her marriage as “mixed-status” on a campaign website, apparently made the controversial remarks this past weekend at what the Daily Caller has described as a “radical” summit organized by the director of an “anti-American organization.”

“I’m a proud Guatemalan before I’m an American,” she told the group while speaking in Spanish, according to the outlet’s translation.

The Daily Caller informs us that they “confirmed the translation of her statement with multiple Spanish speakers.”

In addition to those controversial remarks, it is reported that Ramirez denigrated the United States for being “addicted to war” and accused the country in which she works as a public servant of using “imperialism, militarization, conquest, control, competition in its attempt at domination.”

DIVE DEEPER: Democrats Plan to Ramp Up ICE Obstruction Visits, Don’t Care if They Get Arrested

The Democrats Clearly Don’t Think the Law Applies to Them, and Trump Needs to Remind Them

The White House fired back in response to the Democrat congresswoman’s alleged comments, as well as the appearance of other high-profile Squad members, Reps. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) and Ayanna Pressley (D-MA), calling them “despicable.”

“These Democrats’ comments are despicable and underscore their commitment to putting Americans last,” White House spokesperson Liz Huston said, according to the Daily Caller News Foundation. “In stark contrast, President Trump is working tirelessly to secure peace deals, deport illegal alien criminals, and advance America’s interests at home and abroad.”

In addition to that statement, the Department of Homeland Security issued a response of sorts, quoting Teddy Roosevelt.

“There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism,” the quote reads. “Americanism is a matter of the spirit and of the soul. Our allegiance must be purely to the United States. We must unsparingly condemn any man who holds any other allegiance.”

Ramirez, whose own campaign website states that her mother “crossed the border while pregnant” with her, and which CNN has reported the trek involving crossing the Rio Grande, was part of a contingent of Democrats demanding more radical action in protesting the deportation of illegals.

“I think we should be doubling down, and I think what you’re hearing from our members is we need to be spending next week doing these visits,” she said, according to Axios.

“I’m prepared to go to the detention centers in Indiana,” added Ramirez. “If they’re going to arrest me, then so be it.”

Editor’s Note: Thanks to President Trump, illegal immigration into our great country has virtually stopped. Despite the radical left’s lies, new legislation wasn’t needed to secure our border, just a new president.
