Following the historic 2024 election, the media spotlight shone brightly on me and Barron Trump, the President’s youngest son, for the Republican Party’s unprecedented gains among young voters. Analysts hailed our podcast strategy as a game-changer, crediting us with flipping a demographic long considered a Democratic stronghold.
While Barron and I are grateful for the recognition, it would be disingenuous to accept the lion’s share of the praise. The real architect of this seismic shift was Charlie Kirk, and his relentless work on Turning Point USA. For over a decade, Charlie was the heartbeat of conservative youth outreach. His influence deserved the spotlight.
My connection with Charlie began in early 2014. I was a 16-year-old kid, passionate but unpolished, while Charlie, 19, was already a force of nature, founding Turning Point USA with a vision to reshape the conservative movement. I reached out to him online, drawn to his unapologetic energy and refusal to accept the status quo. At the time, the Republican Party’s youth outreach was stagnant — think stale College Republican meetings and country club talking points that failed to resonate with my generation. Charlie saw the problem and didn’t just complain; he acted.
The road wasn’t easy. For years, the youth vote remained stubbornly Democrat, with conservatives struggling to break through. But Charlie’s resolve never wavered. Instead of doubling down on outdated tactics, he reinvented the playbook. He understood that to win over young people, conservatism needed to shed its stuffy image and become, frankly, cool. Turning Point events transformed into high-energy spectacles — think fireworks lighting up the stage, country music superstars like Jason Aldean, and a vibe that felt more like a concert than a political lecture.
Charlie didn’t just make conservatism accessible. He made it aspirational. He turned the party of the country club into the cool-kid club, a movement that spoke to the energy and optimism of youth.
Part of Charlie’s genius was his ability to embody this transformation himself. With his sharp wit, relentless work ethic, and undeniable charisma — bolstered by his wife, Erika Kirk, a former Miss Arizona who brought her own star power to the movement — Charlie became a cultural figure, not just a political one. His personal brand resonated with Americans, earning him “cool kid” cred that opened doors to spaces conservatives had rarely ventured. From tossing MAGA hats into roaring crowds at college football games (my younger brother sent me a selfie with him at Camp Randall in Madison, Wisconsin, just weeks before the election) to appearing in youth-driven platforms like the George Janko Show and the “Whatever” podcast, Charlie connected with audiences where they lived. He didn’t lecture; he listened, debated, and won hearts with authenticity.
Perhaps most impressively, Charlie became a cultural phenomenon on TikTok, second only to President Trump himself in conservative stardom. In an app dominated by trends and fleeting attention spans, he mastered the art of delivering concise, compelling messages that cut through the noise. His videos didn’t just preach to the choir — they reached skeptics, independents, and first-time voters, sparking conversations that turned into votes.

His impact extended beyond tactics. He built a movement that empowered young conservatives to feel confident in their beliefs, to speak out in classrooms and on social media, and to challenge the cultural monopoly of progressive ideals. Turning Point USA became a training ground for a new generation of activists, equipping them with the tools to articulate their values in a world that often shouted them down. Without Charlie’s groundwork — his events, his media savvy, his refusal to accept defeat — our podcast strategy would have been a voice in the wilderness.
Charlie Kirk didn’t just light the way for young conservatives — he forged the path, laid the foundation, and inspired a generation to rise. More than a mentor or friend, he was a force of nature, proving that one person’s vision can reshape a movement. For that, we owe him our deepest gratitude.
Though he is no longer with us, Charlie’s legacy endures, growing stronger through every young patriot he inspired. His work ignited millions to engage in the fight for our nation’s heart and soul, and we will honor him by carrying that torch forward.
Until we meet again, Charlie, I know you’re in good company with Jesus in Heaven. Rest well, knowing the movement you built will never fade.
