When the tariff is $0

“Delta has bought three planes since the trade war began but paid no tariffs.” That is the headline on this 42-sentence newspaper article in search of a story. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution devoted a chunk of space reserved for something bad to report about Trump but couldn’t find anything, yet.

The President’s name appears four times in the article, which is forced to conclude,

And yet, since tariffs went into effect in early April, the Atlanta-based airline has managed to accept delivery of three new tariff-free Airbus planes. They are scheduled to receive 31 more from the French manufacturer in 2025.

So far, the airline has purchased the planes from the European manufacturer’s assembly plant in Mobile, Alabama, and its Canadian subsidiary. But that could change in the future, because the future is uncertain.

We’re told that “tariffs” and “uncertainty” are the two biggest challenges facing big American businesses. I just want Delta to bring back those little bags of peanuts.
