The Los Angeles Times reports,
How the flags of Mexico, El Salvador and Guatemala symbolize defiance against Trump’s L.A. raids.
Mere defiance? How about insurrection, revolution, sedition? By coincidence, tomorrow is (American) Flag Day. The headline of the non paywall version reads, less provocatively,
These are some of the people flying flags during Los Angeles protests, and why they do it.
It’s a man-on-the-street interview piece. The Times reports,
For eight days now, protesters have made their way to downtown L.A. to protest against immigration detentions in the city and the presence of the National Guard. Images of flags, mostly from Mexico, have spread in news reports and social media — at times drawing the ire of critics.
Not surprisingly, the New York Times puts a “Republicans pounce” spin on the flag controversy. Their headline,
Mexican Flags Have Become Republican Fodder, but Protesters Keep Waving Them
It will be interesting to see what happens tomorrow (Flag Day) at these nationwide, astroturfed, “No Kings” rallies. Here in Minnesota, our own Manchurian Candidate, Gov. Tim Walz will be headlining the local event. He’ll be joined by the Lt. Governor and, of course, the Attorney General, Keith Ellison.
You’re a grand old flag,
You’re a high-flying flag
And forever in peace may you wave.
