A senior adviser to US President Donald Trump has warned that Britons do not have free speech in a chilling call to action.
Speaking to Ben Leo on the first night of GB News’ flagship US programme, The Late Show Live, Kari Lake said: “You don’t have free speech [in the UK] right now.”
Ms Lake, who serves as Mr Trump’s senior advisor to the US Agency for Global Media, told Ben: “I’m actually glad that you’re here right now.”
She also hailed GB News for broadcasting “a lot of truth” – but warned: “That can be a dangerous thing.”

Ms Lake continued: “The truth is a dangerous thing when you’re up against an enemy who doesn’t want it out.
“I know the President and Vice President have spoken about it… We need to demand free speech for our friends in Great Britain.”
The ex-Fox News anchor slammed the policing of social media in Britain, saying: “People should not be getting locked up for Facebook posts.”
According to custody data obtained by The Times, around 12,000 Britons are arrested each year for breaching the Communications Act 2003 and Malicious Communications Act 1988.

GETTYThese laws prohibit social media users from sending “grossly offensive” messages which cause distress, and from sharing anything of an “indecent, obscene or menacing character”.
The state of Britain’s free speech was put under intense scrutiny earlier this month when Irish comedy writer Graham Lineham was arrested at Heathrow Airport by five armed officers after writing a series of gender-critical posts on social media.
And alongside freedom of speech, Ms Lake outlined the difference in the American and British approaches to tackling migration in a scathing assessment.
“We have a President who actually cares about our borders and our sovereignty as a country and cares about the citizens,” Ms Lake said.
“And I hate to say it, but I don’t think that is the case where you are.”

PAMs Lake compared Sir Keir Starmer’s approach to controlling migration to former President Joe Biden’s, criticising the Prime Minister’s “excuses” for not taking tougher action.
She told Ben: “If those excuses continue, England will cease to be England and many people have already said that it is gone.
“It just would be a terrible thing to watch the fall of Great Britain, of England.
“I don’t know what your future looks like, but I know that the leaders there have not shown the courage or the backbone needed to protect their citizens.”
Ms Lake also blasted the BBC for “putting out lies” after referring to Charlie Kirk as “far-right” during the coverage of the memorial service for the conservative activist.
In the incident, BBC North America editor Sarah Smith said that “Mr Kirk built a huge and devoted following for his far-right views”.
Ms Lake told Ben Leo: “Unfortunately, what they’re trying to do is prop up the lies they have previously told.
“They double down and continue to gaslight with lies, where they’re calling people names.”
