Days after Sony confirmed plans to increase PlayStation 5 prices in the UK, it’s now slashed the cost of its console in a limited time sale. From today until June 11, Sony has cut £45 off the PS5 Pro.
This is the first-ever price cut to this flagship PlayStation console, which launched in September last year.
PlayStation 5 Pro now costs £654.99 in the UK. This all-singing, all-dancing Sony console arrives equipped with a 2TB Solid State Drive (SSD) to store digital downloads, as well as the newest Wi-Fi 7 wireless standard for buffer-free online gameplay.
PS5 and PS4 titles should look their best on the Pro-grade console, thanks to the upgraded GPU with 67% more compute units and 28% faster memory. The extra gruntenables Advanced Ray Tracing for enhanced lighting effects — up to 3x the speed of the current PS5.
Sony cuts price of PlayStation 5 Pro for the first time
Sony released its more powerful PlayStation 5 Pro console last year, offering graphical improvements like advanced ray tracing, support for 8K resolutions, and high frame rate gameplay. According to the Japanese firm, PS5 games enjoy “the most impressive visuals ever possible on a PlayStation console” when played on the PS5 Pro. It also ships with a beefier 2TB SSD and support for Wi-Fi 7

PlayStation 5 Standard Edition
It’s still more affordable to buy the Sony PS5 Standard console if you want to be able to play second-hand games, PS4 discs, and physical media.
If the majority of your games are digital downloads from the PlayStation Store, then the Sony PS5 Digital Edition has plummeted to £339.99 — reduced from £429.99.
This latest price cuts, dubbed Sony Days of Play 2025, represent the lowest prices seen across the PlayStation 5 lineup since Black Friday 2023, according to multiple retailers. The timing is particularly significant given Sony’s controversial decision last month to increase the PS5 Digital Edition in the UK from £389.99 to £429.99, which caused considerable consumer backlash.
The latest flash sale effectively reverses that price hike — and goes even further. The discount across all three PS5 consoles is available from Sony’s online store, as well as multiple other retailers.
It’s not just Sony that’s increased prices across its console lineup in recent months. Microsoft’s rival Xbox Series S has jumped to £299.99 — a £50 increase compared to its price tag at launch.
This model includes a 512GB SSD to install your favourite Xbox games, movies, and TV shows. With Xbox Game Pass, the Netflix-like subscription offered by Microsoft on its consoles and PCs, you can stream titles via Wi-Fi — with no need to install them on your hard drive. Xbox Game Pass offers access to a rotating catalogue of console and PC games from Microsoft’s in-house studios, which now includes Bethesda and Activision Blizzard, as well as other popular developers, like EA.
In-game progress will be synced over the cloud, so you’ll also be able to resume on another device, like a smartphone, iPad, Samsung Smart TV, Fire TV Stick 4K Max, or handheld games console, like the Logitech G Cloud or Asus ROG Ally. Fire TV Stick owners can pair Bluetooth-enabled controllers like the Xbox Wireless Controller to play favourites like Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II and Starfield.
Xbox has even integrated features like voice chat into its cloud offering, so the experience in your web browser and across different devices should be very close to playing on a traditional game console.
Following Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard, bestselling titles like Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, and Diabo IV are now accessible via a rolling monthly subscription.
Microsoft increased the monthly cost of its Xbox Game Pass subscription last year.
Despite the higher cost to purchase a console and subscribe to access the latest releases from Microsoft’s studios… players living in the UK should still count themselves lucky.
Xbox fans in the United States have seen even steeper price rises in recent weeks, with the flagship Series X increasing in price by between $100 and $130 (that’s £75 – £99), depending on the model. This is all pretty unprecedented as we’d usually see the price of consoles go down in the years after its launch.
