A four-year-old boy is fighting for his life after a horror pool incident at a hotel in southern Gran Canaria sparked a frantic emergency response.
According to the Sun, the youngster was pulled from the water on Saturday afternoon in the popular British holiday destination, with reports indicating he had suffered a severe drowning episode and was left in a critical condition.
Emergency crews rushed him to a nearby private medical centre in San Bartolomé de Tirajana. However, as his condition deteriorated, doctors raised the alarm and called in specialist teams.
Medics from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) made the urgent decision to airlift the child as every second counted.
In a dramatic operation, the rescue helicopter was forced to land in the car park of a nearby school, while a medicalised ambulance transported the boy to the makeshift landing site.
He was then flown under constant supervision from a specialist team, including a doctor and nurse, who worked to keep him stable during the flight.
The helicopter rushed to Las Palmas, where staff at the University Maternal and Child Hospital were placed on high alert to receive the critically ill child.
Officials confirmed the boy had shown clear signs of severe drowning before the emergency transfer was carried out.
Multiple emergency units were involved in the rescue effort, including ambulance crews, air support and paediatric specialists waiting at the hospital.
The child reportedly remains in a serious condition.
