Twenty counties are braced for rain this Bank Holiday Monday, with the Met Office forecasting scattered showers and lingering cloud, as heavy bursts and thunderstorms on Sunday ease into lighter showers. Southern and central areas are expected to bear the brunt of the unsettled conditions.
Showers are set to continue through Monday in these parts of the UK, though they will be lighter and fewer than over the weekend. Conditions will vary across the country, with cooler weather further north. Northern and north-eastern areas are expected to feel fresher despite temperatures remaining close to average.
Some showers in the far north east could turn wintry over higher ground. Winds will be mostly light to moderate, although stronger at times in the far northeast.
