UK diamond trader collapses into administration | UK | News

A jewellery firm which has been in business since 1979 has collapsed into administration. Administrators have been appointed to Stephen Tyler Ltd, trading as Purely Diamonds, a manufacturer of handcrafted diamond rings and jewellery.

Jeffrey Mark Brenner and James Stares of Antony Batty & Co have been named administrators in a notice published by The Gazette. They are leading efforts to rescue or restructure the retailer. In general, this can include the company in administration being sold through a pre-packaged administration where part of the company continues under new ownership.

Purely Diamonds was established in 1979 from master jeweller Stephen Tyler’s workshop, according to the firm’s website.

He specialised in the design of engagement and wedding rings for brands including De Beers, Beaverbrooks and Goldsmiths.

When retailers shifted production outside the UK, Mr Tyler continued to create jewellery in-house, selling direct to customers through the business.

Mr Tyler’s daughters, Emelie and Stephanie, later joined the business, which offers “fine” jewellery manufactured in London.

Besides trading online, the business operates appointment only showrooms in Farringdon Road, London, and St Ann’s Square in Manchester.

In a statement on its website, Purely Diamonds said its jewellery “reflects a perfect balance of artistry, precision and personal meaning”.

Purely Diamonds and Antony Batty & Co have been approached for comment.
