A mother has expressed her astonishment after opening a large bag of Cadbury Mini Eggs this Easter. Emily Marriott, 37, operates family enterprise Dribble Cakes in Dronfield and had purchased the 1kg bag for adorning her cakes and chocolate creations. However, when she reached for the vibrant assortment inside, the contents left her utterly astounded.
A photograph shared by Emily reveals the bag almost completely filled with white, speckless Mini Eggs. “There were four purple and six pink [in the bag] and this isn’t the first time,” Emily said. She clarified that the bulk of her bags typically contain predominantly white eggs, though this particular one was “extreme.” “I was gobsmacked more than anything,” she added.
Emily, a mother-of-one from Chesterfield, purchases up to four of the 1kg bags weekly in readiness for Easter. The prevalence of white eggs can prove problematic for her enterprise because she exclusively uses the coloured varieties to embellish her chocolate bakes.
“That bag of mini eggs will get used but I’ve had to purchase more mini eggs anyway because of the colouring,” she said. “People want coloured ones. When I’m decorating something I want to use all the colours. If I decorated everything all white it changes the look and dynamic of the whole bake.”
Emily also remarked on the practical irritations of paying premium prices for the confectionery. “I wrote in my post ‘what a waste’. It’s not a waste as such but it’s annoying as a business when I went out last week and bought all my Easter stock [and had to buy more].
“It’s an annoyance for us as a business. People have suggested dying the white ones but I won’t do this. If you’re paying £16 for something why should you have to do anything to it.”
She went on to say that this problem is not exclusive to her. “I’ve always got a quarter of a bag left of white eggs. I’ve seen a lot of other people posting about them finding their mini eggs all white too. You’re not getting the mixture of colours. Opening this bag, I thought ‘oh dear’.”
Following her online post about the discovery, fellow social media users disclosed they had encountered comparable experiences. One bakery remarked: “We must have got all of your yellow ones,” while another suggested: “Definitely complain to Cadbury, hopefully get a free bag.” Further comments included: “I got a bag full of yellow ones” and “I opened a bag the other day and it had so many white ones.”
A spokesperson for Mondelēz International, which owns Cadbury, stated: “Our Cadbury Mini Eggs include a mix of four coloured shells. The shells can appear in different proportions across individual packs due to the manufacturing process, but the total volume of Mini Eggs remains the same.”
